Tomorrow’s CL Golf Tourney a huge fundraiser

The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Canyon Lake Association of Men (CLAMS) are co-hosting their annual Golf Tournament at the Canyon Lake Country Club tomorrow (Saturday).

Both associations usually host their own separate golf tournaments, but this year the event will be co-hosted by both groups. Both associations feel that by combining the two annual tournaments they can do better for the community and more people will prosper from the efforts. The proceeds from the tournament will go towards junior golf and the donation fund of the CLAMS. The CLAMS raise funds for many local charities. This year it was able to raise more money than usual from the annual golf tournament.

“This year, the tournament is bigger because the sponsors donated more so that we can support the community,” Harold Larson, CLAMS president, said.

The Annual Golf Tournament will begin at noon on Saturday with a shotgun start. A shotgun start is when each group of golfers is given a specific hole to simultaneously tee off from. A shotgun is fired and each player can tee off at the same time.

This year’s golf tournament was sold out well before Saturday. Over 150 golfers will be participating in the tournament this year. The players will be using a 4-player scramble format in the tournament. The scramble format is often used at large tournaments. It gives players an advantage by allowing players of all abilities to contribute to the teams success and helps speed play.

Using the 4-player scramble format, each team member takes a turn hitting the ball from the tee and after each member has taken a shot from the first tee, they choose the best of the four shots to play the second shot from that location. The game continues in the same way, each player taking a turn making a shot and then the players choosing which shot is best and playing from there. The team records its score and finishes all 18 holes in this manner. There will be four prizes awarded after the event: the winning team, the longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin. After the tournament, a buffet dinner will be served.
