Local library’s Spring Book Sale starts this week

The Spring Book Sale begins tomorrow and ends on Saturday, March 14. During this time, patrons may purchase a bag of books of their choosing for $1 (regularly $3). All proceeds go towards Canyon Lake Library programs. Sales are made possible by the Friends of the Canyon Lake Library.

Celebrate birthday fun on the final day of the sale. The Canyon Lake Library is turning 40 years old.

Today (Friday) is the last day to turn in e-waste for Boy Scout troop #2011. The troop is accepting small electronics to recycle, such as inkjet and laser printer cartridges, cell phones, tablets, eBook readers, GPS, PDAs, video game consoles, handheld video games, etc. These items can be dropped off at the library during library hours and proceeds from the recycling will benefit Troop #2011’s summer camp transportation costs. Large electronics such as printers, computers and televisions cannot be accepted.

Knitting and Crochet Crafters takes place today from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Crafters of any skill level are welcome to join in the fun. Loaner tools are available for newcomers.

In N’ Out’s Cover to Cover Reading Program begins tomorrow (Saturday) and runs until April 18. Children between the ages of 4 and 12 are challenged to read five books in order to win an Achievement Award with a certificate for one free In N Out hamburger or cheeseburger. Children not yet reading may have books read to them. For more information, visit the circulation desk.

Toddler Story Time will meet Monday at 11:00 a.m. The program is led by volunteer Gretchen Blackford in the Kid’s Cove (Children’s Section) and includes a craft, a story and interactive songs. This program is a great opportunity for young children to practice their growing vocabulary and social skills.

Preschool Story Time will meet on March 13  at 11:30 a.m. and is led by librarian Miss Ginny. Preschool Story Time features live piano and interactive songs at each meeting.

Play Day takes place on March 23 from 10:30 a.m. to noon and will have a special Dance Party theme. Families of children of all abilities are invited to play, share a story and craft with us. Mentoring Tiny Humans co-hosts and provides activities and giveaways at every Play Day.

Tech Time is a program in which patrons aged 18 or older of any skill level may come in to have their questions about the internet or their devices answered by the Tech Tutor, an expert with over 15 years of experience in the field. Interested patrons should make a Saturday appointment at the Circulation Desk. Patrons are encouraged to bring in their devices (such as laptops, smart phones or tablets) to their appointment.

Junior Book Club will meet on March 25 at 4:00 p.m. The title of this month’s pick is The Egypt Game by Zilpha Keatley Snyder and copies are available behind the circulation desk. The group meets on the final Wednesday of the month to discuss literature, enjoy light refreshments and create a fun craft to take home. Newcomers are always welcome. The group explores literature most appropriate for kids in grades 4-7.

Adult Book Club will meet on March 30 at 4:00 p.m. The title of March’s pick is The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sara Pekkanen. The library provides discussion questions relating to the month’s pick and light refreshments at each Adult Book Club meeting. Newcomers are always welcome.

Roots 2 Grow Homework Help, in which teens earn volunteer credit by assisting younger students in their studies is now by appointment. Grade-school-aged children needing help in certain subjects can make an appointment for individualized homework help by calling the library during normal business hours.
