I-15 auxiliary road to open today

Camino del Norte, a new road that links Main Street in Lake Elsinore to Railroad Canyon Road at In-n-Out, is scheduled to officially open today (Friday). The road extension parallels I-15 and is expected to relieve congestion at Railroad Canyon Road by creating a secondary option for those traveling to Canyon Estates Drive and/or Tuscany Hills.

This project will also open up more than 125 acres of land for development along the freeway.

The extension construction began July 9 last year and cost an estimated $3.4 million to complete.

The extension of Camino Del Norte from Main Street to Franklin Street adds approximately one mile of new roadway in undeveloped land with 12 ft. wide traffic lanes, 8 ft. wide paved shoulders and center islands.

Also included in the project was the realignment of Canyon Estates Drive and the extension of Canyon View Drive and Sagecrest Drive.

A new traffic signal at the intersection of Canyon Estates Drive, Camino Del Norte and Franklin Street was installed as were a new sidewalk, curb and gutters. A total of 8,450 tons of asphalt concrete was used for the project.

Drainage improvements, slope protection, and erosion control includes 16 new storm drain systems as well as headwalls, wingwalls, and rock slope protection.

Project stakeholders were Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District, Southern California Edison, Frontier, Soboba and Pechanga Indian Tribes, State Water Board, Army Corps of Engineers, Fish and Wildlife, and Riverside-Corona Resource Conservation District.
