9ers Golf Club seeks applicants for scholarships

The Canyon Lake 9er’s Golf Club once again invites local Canyon Lake resident student athletes to apply for the 9er’s Student Athlete Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded in May and is open to Canyon Lakers attending any local high school and graduating this year.

Applicants must have achieved at least a 3.0 GPA and have been actively involved in school activities, a sports team, have participated in community service and plan to attend college in the fall.

In the 2018-19 academic year, the 9er’s, with the help of the Canyon Lake Car Club, the Canyon Lake Golf Community, and many Canyon Lake businesses, awarded 4 scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $2,500 each.

The 9er’s host an annual Scholarship Golf Tournament to earn money to fund the scholarships. The club has awarded over $20,000 in scholarships the past 4 years. The 9ers anticipate again awarding a generous amount later this spring.

To apply for this year’s scholarship, applicants will need to fill out the application, a “Brag Sheet,” a written essay and recommendations from a teacher and an athletic coach.  Applicants may be invited to an interview with the 9er’s Scholarship Committee.

Applicants are asked to return their application packets to their high school scholarship department, Canyon Lake Golf Pro Shop or Teresa Roberson (30764 Pyramid Point Drive, Canyon Lake, CA 92587).

The deadline to submit the completed packets is April 3. For more information, potential applicants can call Teresa at 310-741-0223.

The 9er’s Golf Club will present the awards to the selected students at their high school’s annual scholarship awards ceremonies in May.
