Sandy Lillie wins her 18th Mary Kay car

The Mary Kay beauty company is well known for rewarding its top producers with cars, many of which have been its famous pink Cadillacs. Remarkably, Sandy Lilllie, a 30-year resident of Canyon Lake and a Mary Kay Senior Sales Director, recently earned her 18th vehicle through the Mary Kay organization. This time, she was awarded a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox.

Sandy has been with Mary Kay for 37 years. She began working part time for Mary Kay as a consultant, hoping to earn a little extra money while pursuing a career in the dental field. After just six months with the company, Sandy said she was successful enough selling Mary Kay products that she was able to leave dentistry and has worked with Mary Kay full time since.

Sandy earned her first car, a 1989 Oldsmobile Firenza, three decades ago. The type of car Mary Kay awards its associates is determined by their team size. There are about seven different types of cars they can choose from.

Sandy earned the title of Director in 1990. Afterward, she and her team earned three pink Cadillacs, which are only available to directors and above. All cars earned by Mary Kay consultants are leased through and paid for by Mary Kay. This covers license fees, taxes, registration and the majority of insurance.

Sandy hopes to educate and empower consultants who wish to grow their own business. Her job as Senior Sales Director is to coach and mentor. Sandy said a popular Mary Kay motto is, “The size of your paycheck is determined by the number of people who you help get what they want.” She said, “It’s not about what I want, it’s what my clients and team members want.”

Over the years, Sandy has mentored many Mary Kay associates.

“This is really similar to a large family,” she said. “Some people are in your family for a short period of time; others for life.” Sandy said she still gets notes of thanks and Christmas cards from people she worked with years ago who still tell her how much she affected them in their lives and helped to make a positive and lasting impact.

Sandy emphasizes that what she tries to teach are not just business skills, but life skills, too. While Sandy works on building her national area, she tries to find women who want to champion their own lives. She helps give them a way to get there.

Sandy’s goal is to meet people and teach them that it is possible to love their skin.

“I specialize in helping women love their skin for life,” said Sandy. She explains that if skincare is doing what it is supposed to, everyone would love their skin.

“Every three to five years you need to tweak something in your skincare,” she said. “Many women are not accustomed to changing their products and typically end up with a hodgepodge of brands.

“There are three reasons why we don’t love our skin,” Sandy said. “The first is women are often using the wrong products for their skin type. The second is the hodgepodging of brands. Finally, women don’t adjust their skincare with the changes that naturally occur in their skin.”

Sandy has a studio set up in her home for those who wish to drop by for a consultation. Sandy travels and sets up booths at local trade shows. She also partners with local companies such as LA Fitness and Chico’s clothing stores.

Mary Kay is an American privately owned multi-level marketing company. In 2015, Mary Kay was the sixth largest network marketing company in the world. Mary Kay has become a best-selling brand of facial skincare and color cosmetics in the country and is based in Addison, Texas, outside Dallas. The company was founded in 1963 by Mary Kay Ash. Richard Rogers, Mary Kay’s son, is the chairman.

Sandy and her husband Lance met in high school in Torrance. The couple has been married since 1984 and moved to Canyon Lake in 1988. For more advice on skincare, Sandy has a webpage, marykay.com/sandylillie. She can also be reached at 951-255-8967 or by emailing sandylillie@marykay.com.
