POA approves funding for three new trucks

The POA Board of Directors approved funding on Tuesday in the amount of $50,961.18 plus a 2.5 percent contingency from the Repair and Replacement for two new Toyota Tacoma trucks for Operations and $25,480.59 plus a 2.5 percent contingency from the CIP Fund for a new Toyota Tacoma truck for Planning and Compliance.

In 2016, the POA auctioned off eight trucks and replaced three of them with similar vehicles. The plan at the time was to eventually replace all of the auctioned vehicles to bring the POA fleet back to the proper number of vehicles. One truck was replaced in April 2018, the other in November 2018.

Most of the POA Operations Department vehicles have been replaced but there are still a few in the fleet that are beyond their reserve life with ages ranging from 16 to 20 years old. Not only is the appearance of these trucks declining, but the maintenance of the trucks are becoming more expensive and more frequent. According to the POA, the cost to replace a set of tires almost exceeds the amount of the truck’s worth. One of the new trucks to be purchased will replace Truck 6, a 2001 Chevy with 120,023 miles.

Planning and Compliance is in need of a third vehicle for inspections of legal properties, staff support for stop-work orders, setback and footing inspections and issuing of lake transport permits. The new vehicle will be used by the Planning and Compliance senior inspector and senior manager. The senior inspector is responsible for workload, inspection accuracy and support to inspectors out in the field. The senior manager will be using the truck for legal review of distressed properties, board appeal investigations and staff support.
