The Veterans Day Committee and community volunteers will be placing an American flag in the yard of every veteran and active duty service person who is registered with the city.

Registration is reserved for veterans and active duty service members who currently reside in Canyon Lake and former residents who still have a family member who resides in Canyon Lake.

The teams of volunteers will start delivering the flags on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

The flags are donated by residents Warren Kelsey and Jack Wamsley, who are among the men who helped spearhead Canyon Lake to cityhood and served on the first Canyon Lake City Council.

The Canyon Lake Ladies of the Lake group prepare the flags for the volunteers by grouping them and tying a yellow ribbon around each one.

In addition to the yard flags, the Field of Honor will rise on Saturday, Nov. 9 when 200 American flags honoring veterans are placed in the Veterans Memorial Park in the Towne Center. The Veterans Day Committee invites the community to honor a veteran with a personalized flag in the Field of Honor.

The cost is $10 and includes a yellow ribbon around the flag bearing the name of the honored veteran. The flags are available at Pack, Wrap and Post in the Towne Center. The last day to purchase a flag is Nov. 1.

The flags will remain in the park until Nov. 15. Those who purchased a flag may pick it up at the park and take it home between Nov. 12 and Nov. 15.
