After Lunch Bunch kicks off 40th year of play

The After Lunch Bunch (ALB) golf group is celebrating 40 years of weekly Friday games this week. The ALB was formed by Canyon Lakers Mel Prince, Harry Fritsch and Jim Magill, whose jobs allowed them to take off Friday afternoons. Mel Prince passed away many years ago, Harry Fritsch still resides in Canyon Lake but no longer plays golf and 93-year-old Jim Magill is still active and serves on the AFB Committee.

The ALB games are open to all male Canyon Lake golfers with an established handicap. The format for play changes weekly. The entry fee is $5 with an optional Skins competition for $5. Sign-ups are taken every Friday between 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. in the Magnolia Room at the country club or over the phone at 951-249-4565. Tee time is 10 a.m.

The ALB welcomes new players. “If you want a friendly game of golf you’ll find it on Friday with the ALB,” said Jim Magill. “Give it a try, you won’t be sorry.”
