Garages sales are a great way to declutter your home or garage and make some extra cash. For many, garage sales are considered a hobby, a social event, a great way to find a bargain, or just something fun to do on the weekend.
Advertising and obtaining a permit is an important part of planning a garage sale. The POA has established a set of rules for garage sales held in Canyon Lake. A permit to hold a garage is required by the POA and the permit must be shown to Community Patrol upon request.
Garage sale permit fees are $20 each. A fine of $50 will be imposed for conducting a garage sale without a permit. No more than three permits per household will be issued in a calendar year.
Only members in “Good Standing” will be issued a garage sale permit. If the member has outstanding POA dues/fines, a permit will not be granted unless the dues/fines are paid.
The permitted sale must be held at the address of which the member’s tract/lot was issued and the sale may not be for more than three consecutive days. Commercial merchandising may not be conducted on the permit.
If the seller decides not to hold the garage sale on the permitted date, the POA must be notified no later than the day before the permitted sale.
Posting signs is a key element to ensuring a successful sale. Only Canyon Lake pre-printed signs may be used for garage sales. The POA will issue three signs per garage sale permit. One sign may be posted on the owner’s property, two signs may be posted on nearby street corners. Garage sale signs may not be posted in the median where Canyon Lake Drive South intersects Continental Drive.
Signs must have their own stake and cannot be affixed to any structure or building on private or POA property, or on a vehicle. Modifying signs with additional color, flags, balloons or streamers is not permitted.
Community Patrol will remove garage sale signs that are not covered by a permit. Signs may be posted on the morning of the sale and must be removed at the conclusion of the sale.
