Chair Volleyball wins gold at Senior Games

The Canyon Lake Senior Chair Volleyball Club participated in the annual Senior Games on Feb. 23 in Sun City. Nineteen teams from six cities enjoyed a full day of competition that ended with an awards ceremony. Three of the five Canyon Lake teams won medals.

The team of Mickey Owens, Ray Beal, Pat Engelhardt, Karl Schorr, Jim Lange and captain Susan French won a gold medal in Division 1.

The team of Patty Davis, PJ Anderson, Sue Popper, Barry Wallace, Don Schorr and captain Karen Bevans won a silver medal in Division 2.

The team of Pam Oskey, Dwayne Shortbridge, Louis Lancia, Jim Lafferty, Mark Bora and captain Pat Herman won a bronze medal in Division 1.

The tournament was organized by Debbi Harper and sponsored by JPN Insurance Services.

The members of the Chair Volleyball Club would like to thank the Sports Stop Pub and Grill for sponsoring the club, Bert Barbay for serving as the official photographer, Janie Curry for providing the nurse station, Juanita and Paul Robles for keeping scores and Fran Tibbet, Len Prowse, Ron Kelly, Marlene Marich and Judy Swift for serving as line judges.

The Senior Chair Volleyball Club is for seniors 50 years of age and older. The game is played using a beach ball and a 5 ft. net while players are seated. Members meet weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge.
