Lions Club invites golfers to golf for charity

The Canyon Lake Lions Club invites golfers to participate in its 29th annual Charity Golf Tournament on Thursday, Mar. 28. Check-in is at 10:30 a.m. The putting contest starts at 11 a.m. Shotgun start at noon.

The tournament entry fee is $60 and includes banquet and awards. Green fees are $29, cart fees are $15. Signups are taken at the Golf Pro Shop at the country club or by contacting Phil Coughlin at 951-805-0223 or Golf Pro Pat Kemball at 951-246-1782. The registration deadline is Mar. 22.

The tournament offers two different formats. Both formats are open to men and women. The four-person scramble is open to all players, with or without a handicap.

Players may pick their own foursome or be placed with a foursome. The Pro-Am event is open to all players with a handicap. Three amateurs will be paired with a pro for a team in a two-best ball format.

For a $5 donation, anyone landing in the circle on hole 15 in one shot will receive $50 for landing in the smaller circle or $25 for landing in the larger circle. There will be a Putting Contest for $2 and a Longest Drive Contest between two lines on hole 14 for both men and women.

Closest to the Pin awards will be given on hole 8 to women in two shots, hole 17 to men in one shot and hole 11 to pros in one shot.

This annual charity event has raised more than $235,000 over the past 28 years for Lions Club charities, such as Guide Dogs of the Desert, Canine Companions, Friends in Sight, City of Hope, Loma Linda Eye Center, Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House, disaster relief all over the world plus many organizations around Canyon Lake.
