Canyon Lake’s Tori Kelly won two Grammys at the 61st Grammy Awards. Her song “Never Alone” won Best Gospel Performance/Song and her album “Hiding Place” won Best Gospel Album.

“What a wild day. I still don’t know how I was somehow able to soak the tears back into my eyes as I was walking up to accept each of these,” Tori posted on her Twitter page. “Dreamed about this since I was a kid. Never thought I would get two in one night.”

Tori, now 26, signed her first record deal at age 12 after appearing on the TV show “America’s Most Talented Kid.” In 2010, Tori auditioned for “American Idol.” She advanced to “Hollywood Week” but was eliminated before reaching the “Top 24.”

Tori’s 2015 debut album, “Unbreakable Smile” debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. She received her first Grammy nomination in 2016 for Best New Artist. She lost to Meghan Trainor.

Tori has found something good out of being rejected and has found a path of her own, leading to the successful singer she is today.

Tori’s “The Acoustic Sessions” tour kicks off this month along with the release of her new lead single, “Change Your Mind,” for her upcoming third studio album.

Tori married basketball player André Murillo in 2018. In addition to her musical career, Tori was the voice of the shy teenage elephant Meena in the 2016 animated film “Sing” and has supported the “Child Hunger Ends Here” program to raise awareness for child hunger in America. Tori released “Fill A Heart” in 2013 to raise proceeds for the organization.
