Week-long camps for kids coming this summer

Menifee Kids Art Camp will be coming to Canyon Lake this summer to offer a week-long art camp. Students will acquire skills, knowledge and confidence from this fun educational camp. This camp is for kids in kindergarten through seventh grades. Classes will be held June 18 through June 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the East Port Activities Room at East Port Park. The cost is $100 and $75 for siblings. Space is limited. Signups are taken at the POA office.

Two STEM camps will be offered this summer for kids ages five to eight. The cost is $125 per session. Both sessions will be held at the East Port Activities Room at East Port Park. Session One runs from June 11 through June 14 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Session Two runs from July 2 through July 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. Class will not be held July 4. Signups are taken at the POA office.

Kids ages three to 16 are invited to learn the “fun”damentals of tennis at the Tennis Club’s Jr. Summer Tennis Program. Three weekly sessions are offered: June 11 through 14, June 25 through 28 and July 9 through 12.

Pee-Wee class, for ages three to six, meets from 9 to 9:30 a.m. This class covers ball control skills, catching, throwing and basic stroke skills. The cost is $30 per week.

The Junior Stokes class for ages seven to 16 meets from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. This class covers, ball control skills, basic stroke skills, game play and strategy and light running and agility drills. Classes will not exceed a six to one adult/student ratio.

The Canyon Lake pool offers summer swim lessons, water polo lessons and Mommy and Me classes. Spaces are limited. Signups are being taken now at the pool office.

Swim lessons begin June 18. Classes are held Monday through Friday and run 30 minutes. There are two class times to choose from: 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The cost is $75 for the first week. The cost for a second week, or for an additional child, is $45. The third week is free. Only one free week per household. Additional weeks are $45 per week.

Swim lesson levels:

Tot Swim: Face in the water, introduction to floating

  • Level 1: Kicking and safety rules
  • Level 2: Hold breath for three seconds, introduction to retrieving objects and turning front to back
  • Level 3: Introduction to diving and retrieving objects with no support
  • Level 4: Elementary backstroke, standing dive, and treading water
  • Level 5: Breaststroke, butterfly kick, and alternate breathing
  • Level 6: Front crawl (100 yards)
  • Level 7: Front crawl (200 yards), back crawl (100 yards), and rescue skills

Water polo lessons also begin June 18 and runs for six weeks. All ages are accepted. Participants must be able to swim the full length of the pool, 25 yards. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $50 per week. Buy two weeks get the third week free. Only one free week per household. Additional weeks are $45 per week.

Mommy and Me sessions are offered July 9 through July 13 only. The cost is $35 per week.

The Junior Golf Camp is a fun way for kids to develop a lifelong skill in the game of golf, whether your player is swinging the club for the first time or looking to refine their skills. This week-long camp runs July 9 through July 14 and is for ages five to 17. The camp offers kid-friendly competitions and on-course learning, keeping campers engaged each day. By the end of the week, players will have learned fundamental skills, etiquette, rules and sportsmanship. The week will conclude on Friday, July 13, with an award ceremony and family lunch.
