TCHS swim teams win league championship

Temescal Canyon High School boys varsity and girls varsity swim teams won the Sunbelt League championship for the 8th consecutive year. On May 2, the teams competed at the DropZone Waterpark in Perris, beating the five other schools in the Sunbelt League.

Sixteen TCHS swimmers, seven boys and nine girls, qualified for the CIF Southern Section championships, which was held the following week on May 9 and 10 at the Riverside Aquatics Complex on the campus of Riverside City College. This is quite an accomplishment as only the top 36 swimmers per event from Division 3 of the Southern Section were invited.

Seven of the TCHS swimmers who qualified are Canyon Lake residents. They include Chase Cordon, Amanda Martilla, Brianna Martilla, Nicholas Johnson, Cooper Smith, Claire Perez and Reagan Walsh.

Nine school records were broken this season, three by the boys and six by the girls.

The boys are coached by Alex Mareda, the girls by Katie Donatelli.
