Nineteen skiers from the Ski Club competed in the Western Regional Waterski Championships July 24 through July 29 at Wet Set Village in Newberry Springs, California. About 300 skies from the Western United States competed in Slalom, Trick, and Jump, with those competing in all three events being eligible for Overall titles and medals in 1st through 5th place in each event.
Canyon Lake skiers won a total of 31 medals. First place medals were awarded to Kendra Nathan in Slalom, Trick and Overall, Willy Bertotto in Jump and Overall and Carol Brooks in Slalom.
Second place medals were awarded to Kendra Nathan in Jump, Ryan Fitzpatrick in Jump, Kevin Hyatt in Overall, Willy Bertotto in Trick, Scott Larson in Slalom, Steven Brooks in Slalom and Trick, Carol Brooks in Trick and Overall, Linda Hockenbery in Slalom and Diana Parker in Jump.
Third place medals were awarded to Ryan Fitzpatrick in Overall, Kevin Hyatt in Jump, Joe Perez in Overall, Carol Brooks in Jump and Diana Parker in Overall.
Fourth place medals were awarded to Ryan Fitzpatrick in Slalom and Trick, Joe Perez in Jump, Fred Willis in Trick and Debbie Sacks in Slalom.
Fifth place medals were awarded to Liam Brady, Kevin Hyatt and Diana Parker – all in Trick. Other Canyon Lake Ski Club competitors included Sabrina Bargar, Steve Volz, Rick Jacob, Tom Nathan, Jim Brooks, and Larry Nordell.
About 600 skiers from across the United States competed for National titles in Slalom, Trick, Jump and Overall at the Goode National Waterski Championship Aug. 9 through Aug. 12 at San Marcos River Ranch in Martindale, Texas.
Canyon Lake Ski Club members Kendra Nathan, Kevin Hyatt, Tom Nathan, Jim Brooks, Joe Perez, Steven Brooks, Carol Brooks and Debbie Sacks competed in the event.
Carol Brooks walked away a big winner placing 2nd in Slalom, 5th in Trick, 4th in Jump and 3rd Overall. Steven Brooks placed 4th in Trick.
