Riding, flipping, skating, surfing are part of ‘L2R’

The Wakeboard Club’s successful Learn-to-Ride Day (L2R) last Sunday, June 26, was dedicated to the memory of John Ruppert, 36, a former Wakeboard Club board member and instructor who passed away earlier last month while on vacation with his wife and two young children. Proceeds from the event, including the sale of commemorative stickers, are being given to his family.

Club President Dave Clarke says, “The event was a huge success and the club would like to thank the whole community for coming out in support of the Ruppert family.”

Some 150 participants either learned how to wakeboard for the first time, or used the opportunity to perfect their skills in wake boarding, wake skating and wake surfing.

Hyperlite Pro Trevor Maur wowed the crowd with his demo moves, then got down to the business of helping other riders with their skills. Also on hand for instruction were local pros Jacob Valdez and Melissa Marquardt.

California Skier helped set up the event. Other sponsors included MasterCraft, MB, Sun Country, Nautique, Rockstar, Sugar Dollz, Hyperlite and Liquid Force. Volunteer photographer Mike Clary was on hand to capture much of the action (mikeclaryphotography.com).

The next Learn-to-Ride Day is July 24. Wakeboard competitions will be held July 16, August 27 and September 18. For more information about the Wakeboard Club, visit canyonlakewake.com.
