Family Matters Club visits family-owned dairy

The Family Matters Club had a “family meet-up” at DeJong’s Dairy in Wildomar on February 24 with almost 30 members in attendance.

“It was a blast,” says spokesperson Jenny Teperson, vice-president of the club. “This dairy is more than just cows, and we were lucky enough to experience it all.”

DeJong’s Dairy, family owned and operated since its founding in 1947, has an animal viewing area at the front of the property. The area is filled with ducks, chickens, goats, guinea pigs, a hog, a peacock and more. In addition to the dairy, there is a feed store and market where fresh milk is sold.

After looking at the animals, a guide took the families for a “meet and greet” with the cows. “We fed them hay and got a couple of cow kisses,” says Jenny. “We were even able to meet and pet the newest addition to the dairy, a week-old calf.”

The group also got a closer look at how and where the cows are milked and how the milk gets bottled.

The visit ended with a sweet treat: DeJong’s fresh, and locally famous chocolate milk paired with chocolate chip cookies.

Jenny says Family Matters would like to thank DeJong’s Dairy for an exciting day and the members who met up for the field trip.

She invites Canyon Lakers to mark their calendars for the Glow-in-the-Dark Easter Egg Carnival on March 19.
