Kicking off fall with Dr. Seuss and a wedding

This year has been really busy for me, and I have had a great kickoff to the beginning of fall.

Even though it is still hot and humid like the middle of July, fall started a couple of weeks ago and has been pretty exciting. I always love fall because all of my favorite TV shows come back on – like “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race” – but it is also a really exciting and stressful time at school.

We had our homecoming over the last couple of weeks and, since I am in ASB, I got the awesome opportunity to help work on the homecoming float for the halftime show at the football game. The main theme was fantasy and every grade had a different sub theme. The seniors were “Alice and Wonderland,” the juniors were “Willy Wonka,” the sophomores were “Peter Pan,” and the freshmen were “Dr. Seuss.”

Our float was so much fun to make because we all contributed our own views and memories from reading Dr. Seuss when we were little. We all brought in our favorite things from his books and made them come to life on our float. The goal for the floats was to get as many people possible, who may or may not be involved with school in our regular activities, on the float and walking along with it while it made its way around the track.

A few days before the halftime parade, we went to Wildomar Elementary School and borrowed their Cat in the Hat costume they use for Dr. Seuss Night. I got to wear it and be the Cat in the Hat on the float. It was really fun because I had to be really energized and really got into it.

We also got blue wigs from Dollar Tree and someone made T-shirts that said: “Thing One,” “Thing Two,” and so on all the way to 20 for all the people who didn’t dress up and wanted to be on the freshmen float. A lot of the older kids were saying it was really great because the freshmen don’t usually put much effort into or care about their floats.

After halftime, our work was done and we got to relax and watch the rest of the game. The cheering section was completely full, and it was a lot of fun. The band was playing new songs and the atmosphere was great. Even though we lost to Summit, it was still a really fun time.

The next morning I had to wake up pretty early because it was a really busy day. My uncle was getting married and we had a lot of work to do before the wedding. This was the first wedding I have ever been to so I was anxious to get there and see what was going on. My dad was the best man so we had to get there early.

The wedding was in San Diego near Mission Bay and Sea World. We were the first there, even before the bride and groom. When others started to get there, we stood around talking with both sides of the family, waiting for the wedding to start. We went into the chapel but they were having some technical difficulties and the wedding ended up an hour late.

When it finally started, it only took a quick 15 minutes. We went outside to congratulate the bride and groom, and take pictures. After waiting through the line of attendees, we went to the reception, which was outside behind the chapel.

We sat down at a table with my grandma, two great uncles and my great uncle’s wife. We got food from the taco bar catering the reception. Everyone was just talking and having a good time after dinner, but then it was time for my dad’s best man speech. He was really nervous because he hadn’t written a speech.

He did a great job and then a few more people went up and talked on the microphone and then they did the traditional dance with the mother and father. After a few hours, it was finally time for cake – mini lemon bundt cakes. They were really good and it was a great night.

It was around 9:30 when people started to leave and it was almost time to see the bride and groom off on their honeymoon in Hawaii. The bride’s daughter, my new cousin, was really having a hard time and was crying when her mom was leaving. But she finally let go and the new couple got into a vintage car and drove off. After the long drive home I was wiped out and went straight to bed.
