Once upon a time there were boat shows in CL

Here is a blast from the past sent in by Steve Hipsak. The date was May 1989, when Steve hosted the first of three wooden boat shows in Canyon Lake. That first show had 26 classic wooden boats from a bygone era on display at the Lodge dock.

To add to the viewing pleasure, about a dozen residents brought their classic and custom cars for display at the Lodge.

Steve says, “Saturday afternoon saw a parade of these boats traveling up and down East Bay and around the lake so Canyon Lakers could see these beauties in action. Unfortunately, every year there are fewer and fewer of these classics to be seen.”

He notes that the mahogany legends still can be viewed at shows in Lake Arrowhead and Lake Tahoe.
