Letter: Emergency Responders

Editor, The Friday Flyer:

I am writing this in response to the lady whose Letter to the Editor was published last week complaining about the fire department responding to her home within five minutes of her call; the ambulance responded in 10 minutes.

If you call emergency services and state that you are having an asthma attack, you are getting an Advanced Life Support (ALS) response. Those first responders are well aware of the number of asthma attacks that evolve into a respiratory arrest. The Fire Department’s quick response prevented that from happening to this lady.

So instead of complaining about the unnecessary waste of our expensive firefighting force, she should probably be writing them a thank-you note for coming to her rescue and saving her life.

Fire departments do a lot more than just put out fires. They are trained to respond to any type of emergency that happens in the community they serve.

P.S. She said, “I wish that we had a fire department that didn’t come unnecessarily.” Then don’t call unnecessarily.
