Teen donates money from The Nifty Necklace sales

Miss Teen Canyon Lake Karina Bowen is a hardworking teen who has her own jewelry business, The Nifty Necklace.

In March, she held a jewelry sale to raise funds for two Canyon Lake clubs: the Family Matters Club and the Jr. Women’s Club. Her plan was to donate 30 percent of her proceeds from the sale.

Karina sold $300 worth of jewelry at the sale, which her gave $90 to donate. She decided to round the amount up to $100 so she could give each club $50. Photos show her presenting checks to club representatives at recent meetings.

Karina started The Nifty Necklace shortly after her grandmother passed away. The business is named for her grandmother, whose nickname was “Nifty.” It is an appropriate name for the business as the customizable lockets are a nifty way to display whatever is close to one’s heart.

The locket that started it all was the one Karina made for herself as a memorial to her grandmother: a heart locket filled with green and purple butterflies and a Singer sewing machine.

Karina has been in business since September 30, 2013. She has a Facebook page, goes to local events and has an Etsy store with almost 2,000 orders.

Look for her to have a booth at the upcoming Quarter Mania event being held in July at the Lodge.
