After Lunch Bunch

Forty Canyon Lake golfers were scheduled to play one of their favorite courses last Friday at Soboba Springs Country Club. But alas, for only the second time this winter, Mother Nature rained on their game.

The format for next week’s game will be Two Best Balls of the Foursome and the Committee will be picking the teams. The Course Record for this game is 107, held jointly by the teams of Pete Mortensen, Jim Dieringer, Nafziger, and Carlson, and Rudy Magliocchi, Chuck Hudson, Lloyd Dishon, and John Hermanns.

The After Lunch Bunch’s weekly game is open to all Canyon Lakers with an established handicap. The “Bunch” plays every Friday and it’s easy to join in on the fun. Signups take place between 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. on Friday mornings in the Magnolia Room, or by phone at 249-4565 or 237-6102. The entry fee is $5; there is an optional skins game for an additional $5.

The Nomads

The Nomads is a group of golfers that travels to local area courses on the days that the Canyon Lake course is closed for maintenance.

Last Monday the Nomads traveled to Dos Lagos Golf Course through arrangements made with Host Pro Stan Gonzales, a former Canyon Lake Resident. The game was two best balls of the foursome with the following results:

A Flight – 1st: Randy Bonner, Dale Willingham, Jack Gray and Shannon VanDruff – 118; 2nd – Travis Montgomery, Bruce Wallis, Gary Sell, and Rocky Rogers – 120

B Flight – 1st: Bob Henderson, Chuck DeSalvo, Rob Smith and Gary Snyder – 112; 2nd – Harry Larson, Bob Clow, Tom D’Amato and George Lysak – 118

Winners of the 18 Max Skins were Dale Willingham on hole number 3, Ken Mathes on hole 8, Shannon VanDruff on hole 11, Bruce Wallace on hole14, Gary Sell on hole16 and Phil Coughlin on hole18.

For Canyon Lake’s Maintenance Day in June, the group has scheduled their game at The Golf Club at Rancho California (old SCGA course) with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee is $45 including green fee, cart and prize money. There is also the usual optional 18 maximum skins game. Anyone interested in playing can call either Bob Stinson at 951-249-4565 or Jim Magill at 951-237-6102.
