President Eilers apologizes, steps down from presidency
Laura Loeffler,
one of the or- ganizers of last Saturday's rally calling for POA President David Eilers resigna-
tion, says, "The protest seemed
to go over well.
We received hundreds of
honks, waves
and thumbs-up,
as well as a few upraised middle fingers." Approximately 50 people participated, many wearing pig ears to protest Dave's comment about a female speaker at

About 50 residents, many wearing pig ears, rallied at the Main Gate last Saturday morning to protest the words and actions of CLPOA President David Eilers
at the August 4 Board meeting and to demand his resignation from the Board. They lined both sides of the road outside the gate and got honks, waves, thumbs-up and a few middle-finger salutes during
the hour or so they demonstrated.
The protesters got their wish, in part, as in today’s
paper, Dave apologized for the comment he made about a female speaker and announced he has stepped down from the presidency. Dave says he “deeply re- grets” the words he uttered about speaker Natalie
Mathis prior to her taking the podium at the August 4 meeting.
Apparently thinking his microphone was turned off and his comment to fellow Director Bruce Yarbrough would be private, Dave said,
and immediately apologized.
The environment at the meeting had already be-
come hostile after the Board persisted in approving the Main Gate Project over the objection of many of the members. Natalie was one of several speakers who expressed disapproval of the project and other Board actions. After hearing Dave’s admission and apology, order disappeared and the meeting exploded out of control. Director Doug Gordon called for Communi- ty Patrol to removed Natalie from the room, and the Board immediately voted for adjournment.
In his letter of apology Dave says, “I want to begin by saying that I deeply regret the words that I uttered during last Tuesday’s POA meeting. This has been a very trying time for everyone and I am ashamed for allowing my frustration to get the better of me. I as- sure you it was not my intent to hurt or offend anyone publicly.
“I know that some have tried to help by offering excuses for my behavior but I can offer no excuse, only my most sincere apology for the embarrassment I have caused Natalie Mathis and her family, my fel- low Board members, and the entire community. My remarks were in poor taste and uncalled for. I’m only human and as such I am prone to mistakes like every- one else. As a leader, though, I am held to a higher standard and I am terribly sorry I fell beneath that standard last Tuesday.
“I have received considerable correspondence from our community since Tuesday, with some people call- ing for my resignation but also a greater heartwarming

“Mathis. Those
Fat bitch. She’s a disgusting pig.” at the meeting did not hear the comment, but those watching the meeting on TV and computer could clearly hear his words. Nata- lie’s friends texted her to let her
know what he had said.
Natalie confronted Dave in the
meeting. When he denied saying anything and attempted to continue with business, she de- manded that he acknowledge what he said. Finally, Dave admitted to the comment
