A-8 THE FRIDAY FLYER JANUARY 2, 2015 Randy Bonner provides ‘State of the City’
BY RANDY BONNER, 2014 MAYOR
CITY OF CANYON LAKE
I hope everyone has a healthy and happy New Year. The New Year 2015 will be “a bit of paradise” for Canyon Lake, and the future is bright. The City’s population is staying steady and the fi- nancial picture is sound and balanced, thanks to the passage of Measure DD, the election of two highly-motivated City Council members (Dawn Hagger- ty and Vicki Warren) and the dedicated leadership of City Manager Keith Bre- skin and City Clerk Arial Hall.
Here are some of the accomplish- ments and actions taken by the Canyon Lake City Council in 2014:
national motto, “In God We Trust,” and approval of a City motto, “A Little Bit of Paradise.”
    - ment Block Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 that incorpo- rates Graffiti Removal, Code Enforce- ment to address substandard structures, Enhanced Code Enforcement, Home Re- pair Program and 15 percent of funds to
 City Council.
who, with the assistance of Interim City Manager Deborah Harrington and Inter- im City Clerk Kay Vinson, hired highly professional City Clerk Arial Hall.

Committee and Agency Involvements
I would like to acknowledge fellow Council members for their involvement in local committees and agencies. I can- not express enough my appreciation for the untiring preparation, attendance and contribution made by my colleagues on City committees and Riverside agencies throughout the year.
Mayor Pro-Tem Tim Brown served as chair of the City’s Administration and Finance Committee and Planning Com- mittee, and a director with the Regional Conservation Authority (RCA).
I am confident that Tim will diligent-
ly work with the Bureau of Land Man- agement (BLM), RCA and the Depart- ment of Fish and Wildlife to eventually transfer the control of BLM lands within Canyon Lake borders to the City. Even- tual development could help the City’s finances as public safety costs continue to increase over the next five years.
Mary Craton was chair of the City’s Public Works Committee, and served as a director with the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC), and League of California Cities River- side Division.
We are so proud that Mary was cho- sen by the League of California Cities Riverside Division for the 2014 Public 12 years of City Council service and serving three times as Mayor.
Nancy Norton was chair of the Wa- ter Committee, Veterans Committee and Economic Development and Healthy Canyon Lake with the Lake Elsinore - with the Quail Valley Environmental Council Board of Directors.
The alum treatments on the lake would not have happened if Nancy had not led the efforts. All these water-re- lated activities resulted in Nancy being elected in November to the Elsinore Val- ley Municipal Water District (EVMWD) Board of Directors, Division 1. Congrat- ulations to Nancy.
