District. His comments about the Dis- trict’s emphasis on the gender of mos- quitoes provided lighthearted moments at City Council meetings.
In December, Jordan’s colleagues on City Council elected him to serve as Mayor in 2015. This will be Jordan’s second time as the Mayor – he is highly respected in the community.
As 2014 Mayor, it was my privilege to be chair of the Public Safety Committee and a director with the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA). I promoted two separate Roundtable groups. The first has been meeting for two years and includes rep- resentatives from the City, CLPOA, Riv- erside Sheriff’s Office (RSO), EVMWD and Dale Welty, a citizen involved in youth programs and activities in Canyon Lake.
The second Roundtable started meeting about six months ago and includes repre- sentatives from the City, CLPOA, Cham- ber of Commerce, Merchant Owners Association and prominent citizens Ron Hartley, Ron Martel and Warren Kelsey.
These Roundtable meetings are infor- mal by design. I hope that we achieved the intent, which was to enhance com- munications between the respective par- ticipants for the betterment of Canyon Lake citizens and CLPOA members.
There are several staff members I would like to thank on behalf of the citi- zens of Canyon Lake. I am so impressed and appreciative of the City of Canyon Lake employees.

citizens as they come into City Hall. Jean Voshall of Code Enforcement and Ivan Henery, Mike Feeney and Marianne Parker of Special Enforce-
ment are “on top” of everything.
We will miss Nancy Greenhalgh, who recently retired as the City’s Financial
Administrator for 21-plus years.
The superior legal advice from Bet- sy Martyn has been invaluable. Police Chief Michael Judge and Lieutenant Earl Quinata have provided first-class
responsiveness.
All of the financial audits are consis-
tent with accounting standards and fully supportable by CPA Terry Shea.
Necessary services are contracted through Habib Motlagh of Public Works and Russell Brady and David Alvarex of Planning, who always help the City Council make timely decisions.
There aren’t enough words to thank Nancy Carroll, Larry Greene, Dee Walk- er and David Eilers of the Canyon Lake Emergency Preparedness Committee (CLEPC) for helping our community be prepared in the event of a disaster.
Lastly, I would like to thank the dig- nitaries and VIPs who attend City Coun- cil meetings, including those who start our meetings with invocations and help present City Proclamations, as well as members of the community who show an interest in City government and in helping to make our City a finer place to live.
I am very pleased to have had the privilege of serving this community via City Council and, before that, the CLPOA Board of Directors. Happy New Year Canyon Lake.
Happy Holidays!

Community leaders set goals for the New Year
Some residents may not think about the fact that their community leaders are liv- ing down the street or around the block and enjoying the lake and amenities just like their other neighbors. The only difference between leaders and almost everyone else is they volunteer a great deal of time trying to make their community a better place to live. Here are a few of their resolutions for the New Year 2015:
David Eilers, CLPOA President – I resolve to eating better and staying healthy; but most importantly to continue to lead this community and make our Bit of Paradise the best it can be. 2014 was a great year for the POA and 2015 will be even better.
Dawn Haggerty, CLPOA Secretary and New City Council Member – In this world so filled with problems, so constantly threatened by difficult challenges, I want to raise above mediocrity and indifference and speak with a strong voice for what is right. I feel that is what I was elected to do and I resolve to always focus on what are the right choices and what is best for “all” and not just the “few.” I know just thinking about “doing good and serving others” doesn’t get the job done. Action is the key word and I am resolute in acting in ways to create positive solutions to whatever challenge is presented. I think if we all did this, and let go of the anger and negativity, it would be a better world. I also resolve to improve my golf game. Now this will be the “real” challenge!
Tim Brown, Mayor Pro-Tem – In the next two years (before my term on the Council expires) I intend to make sure that the City of Canyon Lake has comprehen- sive policies and procedures in place (to protect against fraud and abuse) and ensure that all ordinances (including planning ordinances) are available online. On a more personal note – when my wife died earlier this year, I started smoking again after 10 years of not touching a cigarette. It is a terrible example for my grandkids and I am resolved to stop smoking again in 2015.
Vicki Warren, City Councilwoman – My first resolution has been said over and over again so it’s easy to repeat here: I resolve to do the very best I can for the people of, and the City of, Canyon Lake. We have an exciting future ahead and 2015 is go- ing to be just the beginning. Hard work, dedication and devotion is what it’s going to take and I am resolved to give it my all. On a personal level, I resolve to concentrate on good mental and physical health and to take care of myself and the people I love.
Jordan Ehrenkranz, 2015 Mayor – A New Year’s Resolution? Resolution means determination, formal decision, solution. As your mayor, I want to let you know that, for the coming year, I am determined to make the necessary formal decision and to find the solution to the many challenges and problems that our fine City faces; and with our new Council members, I know that we can accomplish this.
I believe now is the time for our City to put some of our past differences behind us and come together and work towards a common goal.
We should all make a greater effort to notice that waves still break majestically on California’s coast as they have done without restraint since the dawn of time. We should notice that the hills are covered in living green velvet, trees are leafing, birds nesting and flowers are blooming. Our abundant rains will bring us a particularly lovely rebirth of spring. So despite our man-made problems, we are blessed. Smooth away those frowns and, as we work our way out of our troubles, there are limitless reasons for us to smile.
