All invited to Canyon Lake Cleanup Day

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club is calling on community volunteers to participate in the Spring Lake Cleanup Day on May 4. The event, a longstanding tradition in the community, focuses on maintaining and preserving the beauty of Canyon Lake.

Volunteers are asked to gather at Diamond Point Park at 9:00 a.m. for a brief orientation and distribution of maps and cleaning supplies.

During the cleanup, volunteers using boats will navigate the lake’s coves and shorelines to collect submerged and floating debris. Meanwhile, those on golf carts will concentrate their efforts on the park beaches and adjacent shorelines.

The goal is to ensure every foot of the lake’s perimeter is checked and cleaned, culminating in the collection of filled garbage bags at Diamond Point Park for disposal by the city.

Vice Commodore Dave Carter emphasized the importance of the event. “The Yacht Club has held Lake Cleanup every year for decades,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity for the community to focus our attention on this beautiful lake.”

He noted that the cleanup day is not only crucial for the lake’s upkeep but also serves as a fun and rewarding way for residents to engage with fellow community members.

Participants are not required to register in advance and can simply arrive at the designated starting point on the day of the event. Those coming in golf carts are encouraged to bring large trash bags and nets, while a select few boats will be equipped with large nets specifically for retrieving floating debris.

The cleanup is scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., afterwhich all collected debris will be returned to Diamond Point Park for counting, collection, and proper disposal.
