Firefighters promote reading, then play with kids

The Canyon Lake Fire Department took an active role in promoting literacy during Read Across America Week by participating in reading sessions at the Canyon Lake Library and the Canyon Lake Community Church and Preschool.

The two events last week attracted more than 150 attendees, underscoring the community’s strong support and interest in fostering a love for reading among its youngest members.

The initiative, part of a nationwide effort to celebrate reading and literacy, saw Canyon Lake firefighters sharing stories and engaging with children and parents alike.

“The unwavering support from the community is greatly appreciated,” a representative from the Fire Department said. “We thoroughly enjoyed interacting with every one of you.”

By taking part in these reading sessions, the Canyon Lake Fire Department aimed to highlight the significance of reading in educational development and inspire a lifelong passion for literature among children.

“We are proud to encourage and educate children on the importance of reading,” the representative said. “We hope that the experience will have a lasting impact on the community’s youth and their families.”

The firefighters also took to the parking lot where they interacted with the children as they demonstrated the use of fire hoses, firefighter apparel and fire engine gadgets.
