Helping Hands director extends extraordinary aid

In an extraordinary act of kindness, Larry Evans, the Executive Vice President of Helping Hands, recently demonstrated the true spirit of community service by aiding a neighbor in need in an unusual and compassionate way.

While at a local Costco, Larry encountered a man holding a sign requesting food or spare change, mentioning his need to feed his cat. True to his nature, Larry stopped to engage with the man. During their conversation, he discovered that they shared a similar medical history – both had undergone surgery to receive a prosthetic eye.

In an incredible gesture of generosity, Larry, who had recently been fitted for a new prosthetic eye, offered his used eye to the man. Remarkably, the eye was almost a perfect fit and even matched the color well. This act went beyond conventional assistance, offering not just the dignity of appearance, but also a sense of normalcy to the man’s life.

As is customary for all Helping Hands volunteers, Larry also provided the man with the groceries he needed. He plans to follow up with the man’s case worker to ensure everything is medically sound following this unusual, but heartwarming exchange. The Helping Hands organization, known for its commitment to serving the community, once again proves that compassion and empathy are at the core of its mission.
