Golf Cart Poker spreads proceeds to local causes

The 15th Annual Xmas Ugly Sweater Golf Cart Poker Run, led by Josh Steeber, is a significant annual fundraiser for the community of Canyon Lake. The event held recently brought in funds that are now being given to various charitable initiatives.

A summary of these contributions are:

Purple Ribbon Assistance Program: The Poker Run provided all gifts for Michelle’s Place Christmas Party, supporting children through this assistance program.

Family Matters Club: The Poker Run purchased gifts for the Canyon Lake Family Matters Club Santa List. These gifts were wrapped by volunteers and are being delivered to families just before Christmas.

Brave Gowns: 100 Brave Gowns are currently in production, intended for children in hospitals. Delivery timing is being coordinated with hospital CEOs, with multiple drop-offs planned in Riverside County.

Teddy Bear Donation: Over 1,000 teddy bears were donated to Nic Welty, a Canyon Lake junior at Santa Rosa Academy, for his senior project. These stuffed animals will be distributed to foster children in the juvenile justice system and to children’s hospitals. The Riverside County DA, Mike Hestrin, will assist in the courthouse distribution.

Christmas Dinners: The Poker Run is providing four prime rib Christmas dinner meals with all the sides for families in need. Two families have been identified, and two more are being sought for this effort.

Support for a College Student: Efforts are underway to help an 18-year-old college student and Temescal Canyon graduate in need of a reliable car. Donations are being coordinated by Kandace at Kandacecarrasco@gmail.com.

Support for Eric Frega: The Ugly Sweater Poker family and friends “took over” the Frega’s Christmas. Eric was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer a week before the Poker Run event. He has been a huge supporter of the event and the cancer community, founding American Cancer Fighter. Gift card donations will be included in the Christmas gifts for the family.
