Fine Arts Guild gives 2024 lineup at annual dinner

There was more to Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild’s Annual Dinner than great food and drink. The event, held Tuesday at the Canyon Lake Lodge’s Holiday Bay Room, featured the exciting reveal of the the Guild’s 2024 concert lineup.

In a video compilation, Larry Garland showcased clips from the 2023 season and then dramatically announced the 2024 artists. The 2024 concert series will include tributes to Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carrie Underwood, and Bon Jovi, along with a special band playing hits from the 1970s.

Earlier in the program, Bonnie Dubbs, President of the Guild, introduced two special guest speakers who have been instrumental in shaping the Guild’s direction: Dee Zasio and Ron Martel.

Dee and her late husband Art were foundational figures in the Guild’s history, while Ron Martel, a former Guild President, was acknowledged for his transformative vision in bringing tribute bands to the Guild, a move that has significantly increased its appeal and led to a membership waiting list.

The dinner event was also the installation of the 2024 Guild Board. After thanking members of the 2023 board, Bonnie welcomed the new board. Bonnie will serve as President & Social Activities, Chris Papavero, Security & Publicity, Kasey Castillo, Governance, Shari Skidmor, Secretary, Larry Garland, Vice President & Operations, and Brian Wood, Membership & Treasurer.

The Guild, known for its contribution to the community and music, offers scholarships for students in the music field and hosts the free “Harvest Festival” concert. These initiatives underscore the Guild’s commitment to enhancing the musical landscape of Canyon Lake.

The evening concluded with a performance by John Rankin, a multi-talented artist mentored by John Legend, who showcased his skills on the violin, guitar, and vocals.

Bonnie, recently honored by the Canyon Lake POA for her contributions to the community through the Guild, thanked all the volunteers for their dedication.

Bonnie ended the night on a high note, expressing excitement for the 2024 season and the joy that music brings to the lives of the Canyon Lake community.

“Thank you once again for joining us here tonight,” Bonnie said. “Here is to a fantastic 2024 season and to the happiness and harmony that music brings into our lives.”
