Canyon Lake Ski Club Board member, Emilia Horton traveled to Groveland, FL and competed in the Three-Event International World Waterski Championships last week. Competitors from around the world participated for their countries in the high-stakes World Championship event which was televised live on YouTube via The Waterski Broadcasting Channel.

Emi skied for her home nation of Finland as well as representing the Canyon Lake Ski Club. She skied in three events as part of the Three-Event Competition. Her slalom ski event score was 2.5 buoys at 13 meters (or 32 off). She jumped 111 feet and tricked 3,940 points.

“It was a fun experience, and I am hoping to be able to compete at Worlds again,” Emi said. “We were skiing a lot in the past few months before the Worlds. We would get up early to get to the Canyon Lake North Ski Area at sunrise and then take 2-3 sets multiple times a week before work.”

Emi graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2013, where she participated on its waterski team for four years. After graduation she moved to California and skied at Wet Set, and has now been a Canyon Lake resident for 2.5 years with her husband Taylor Horton, a waterski competitor as well.

“Taylor was seen wearing his Canyon Lake Ski Club swag on YouTube at the International World Waterski Championships event,” Scott Larson, Canyon Lake Ski Club President, said. “When the YouTube announcers noticed the swag, they gave Canyon Lake a shout-out on live TV.”
