Pickleball Club puts down paddles to swim, BBQ

Despite previous weather-related setbacks, the Canyon Lake Pickleball Association triumphantly hosted its annual swim and BBQ event, treating 50 enthusiastic club members to a day of relaxation and camaraderie.

This cherished annual club tradition took place at a private pool, accompanied by a delectable BBQ spread, with attendees bringing their favorite dishes and desserts to share.

“Unfortunately, we had to cancel our Hot August Nights Tournament last month due to Hurricane Hillary,” the club’s Steve Libring said. “Then, when packing up the food and supplies the morning of the swim and BBQ, it was sprinkling again here in Canyon Lake.”

Would the club be thwarted yet again?

Despite the initial weather concerns, Steve’s optimism wasn’t about to damper the get together.

“But seeing how it’s a swim party, you’re going to get wet either way, so we forged ahead,” he said. “The weather cooperated and cleared up by the time we were setting up.”

The event’s culinary offerings were expertly overseen by Bill Koster, who manned the BBQ station and dished out mouthwatering burgers, brats, and hot dogs for all in attendance. Adding a sweet touch to the festivities, Tish Penner contributed a beautifully decorated cake to commemorate the 7th annual gathering.

The day proved to be a resounding success, marked by scrumptious food, laughter, and the strengthening of friendships among club members.
