Yacht, Pickleball Clubs to team up for Super Moon cruise

After a successful Summer Splash Picnic at Roadrunner Park Sunday, the Canyon Lake Yacht Club is teaming up with the Canyon Lake Pickleball Club on Tuesday night for a Super Moon Cruise.

Members of both clubs will assemble with their boats at the Holiday Harbor Guest Docks at 6:15 p.m. The plan is to enjoy a delightful meetup, complete with appetizers and social interactions, as they await the enchanting moonrise.

Those attending from the two clubs do not need a boat to participate, just drinks and an appetizer to share. It is also helpful to contact the organizers to RSVP.

Once the moon graces the night sky, the boats and their members will embark on a leisurely cruise around the Main Lake, taking in the serene beauty of the surroundings. Afterward, they will anchor at Catfish Cove, where more socializing and swimming opportunities await them.

The event promises to be an evening filled with camaraderie and the enjoyment of the stunning lake environment under the moonlit sky.

This will be the first of three joint venture “Super Moon” moonlight cruises for the two clubs. The clubs are very excited to bring this joint venture together, Commodore Ron Wilbur said.

A “Super Moon” is the backdrop during a previous Canyon Lake Yacht Club moonlight cruise. The club will be out on Tuesday with the Canyon Lake Pickleball Club cruising the lake to enjoy the full moon rising over the lake.

On Sunday, over 50 individuals graced the “Summer Splash” gathering organized by the Canyon Lake Yacht Club held at Roadrunner Park. Anticipated to face scorching temperatures of 106 degrees, as is customary during the height of Canyon Lake summers, the forecast eventually mellowed, offering a relief of nearly 10 degrees from its earlier predictions.

The swiftly-growing club was elated by the presence of numerous fresh faces, welcoming new members with open arms. A wide array of picnic delight potluck dishes was devoured and the club provided buckets of Kentucky Fried Chicken. The feast was also shared with the Canyon Lake Fire Department and Community Patrol at the East Gate.

Commodore Ron shared the exciting news that the club‘s membership had been breaking records since the beginning of the year and now boasted a total of 229 members. Having already hosted 21 events and activities, the club still looks forward to 19 more events this year, including 10 thrilling cruises.

The merriment of the picnic carried on with longstanding members reminiscing about bygone days. Bill Thomas, the oldest club member and a founding member of the club at the age of 95, regaled the attendees with stories of past parties and cruises.

Greg Cassidy, another early club member, narrated the rich history of the annual holiday Parade of Lights, a cherished Yacht Club holiday tradition.

Greg and his wife Karin Cassidy have taken part in nearly every parade with their boat, the beloved Blue Shark, which has annually captured the crowd‘s hearts.
