New club focused on old-fashioned fun
YOP-C (Young Old People’s – Club) is Canyon Lake’s newest club and is already becoming extremely popular. The social club is helping older Canyon Lakers find new friends and just have some good, old-fashioned fun.
The club had its inaugural kick-off meeting on May 10 and since its inception, YOP-C has wasted no time in organizing various gatherings and events.
The group has enjoyed Canyon Lake activities such as Taco Tuesdays, Happy Hours at the Country Club, and Comedy Hours. Additionally, the club has an exciting Carnival Cruise planned for October. The summer months are already packed with several other entertaining club events for its members.
The club was founded by Pete Dorazio and Judy Smith-Dorazio, a couple originally from San Diego who moved to Canyon Lake three years ago. Having purchased a vacation home in Canyon Lake 12 years ago, they had always intended to make Canyon Lake their permanent residence upon retirement. Three years ago, they fulfilled their plan and settled down in Canyon Lake full time. Pete retired just last year.
The idea for the club emerged one day when Pete thought that it was time for he and Judy to form some new friendships. Thus, the concept of the “Young Old People‘s Club” was born and YOP-C quickly gained momentum.
The Dorazios set some ground rules for the club, emphasizing a strict no-politics and no-POA bashing (people or Property Owners Association) policy, with the primary focus being good, old-fashioned fun.
The club‘s rapid growth is testament to its appeal. Dozens have already joined and the club is looking for additional members. The group invites Canyon Lakers “50” and over who are still “young at heart” and looking to make new friendships and fun memories are encouraged to join.
