In Memoriam: Sandra Wicker

Sandra Wicker

Sandra Wicker, a 35-year resident of Canyon Lake, passed away on May 31, 2023 in Canyon Lake at the age of 76 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Her husband, two daughters, and a granddaughter were at her side when she passed to the arms of her Lord.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters and their spouses, six grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Sandra was born in 1947 in Artesia, CA to Louis and Nancy Schutty. From birth until 1963 she lived in many states and abroad as her father was a career Navy CWO. She resided in Hawaiian Gardens, CA; Long Beach, CA; Garden Grove, CA; Coronado, CA; La Mirada, CA; Norfolk, VA; Whidbey Island, WA, Whittier, CA, and in her youth in Panama, Puerto Rico, and Guam.

When her father retired from the Navy, he moved his family to La Mirada, Ca. where Sandy graduated from La Mirada High School and it was there that she met and ultimately married Daryl Wicker. They were married nearly 58 years at the time of her death.

Sandy and Daryl lived briefly in Buena Park, CA early in their life together and then lived in Whittier, CA for 32 years before moving to Canyon Lake part-time in 1988 and then full time in 1998.

Sandy‘s passion has always been her family, two daughters, and six grandchildren (which includes a set of triplet boys). It was always with her family that she enjoyed camping, water skiing, singing, dancing, sewing and outdoor recreation activities, which included Dodger games. She absolutely loved living in Canyon Lake.

Sandy was also an avid and accomplished quilt maker, as was her sister-in-law Nancy Schutty, a former Canyon Lake resident. Sandy enjoyed a very large family with many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Sandy was a very active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Whitter for 57 years where she sang in the Church Choir and was for many years a member of the Church‘s Quilting Guild.

Sandy left us with a heart filled with a deep love for her family and friends who will miss her spirited, loving, and caring nature. A very special person has gone from us.
