CL Lions take 90,654 pull tabs to Ronald

For more than 15 years, the Canyon Lake Lions Club has been collecting aluminum pull tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House in Loma Linda. Canyon Lake Lion Don Riley recently delivered 90,654 pull tabs to the charity.

The club collects pull tabs from any can with aluminum pull tabs from various Canyon Lake residents, schools, etc. After collecting bags full of the tabs, the club delivers them to Loma Linda where they are weighed and picked up by a recycling company.  This company, in return, writes a check to Ronald McDonald House so the charity can continue its important mission to families with children in need of their services.

Ronald McDonald House has 380 houses in more than 64 countries. These houses accommodate families with hospitalized children under 21 years of age who are being treated at nearby hospitals and medical facilities. These accommodations are provided at no cost.

Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House opened in 1996.  Last year, the House opened its facility to 1,806 families.

“They need all of our generous financial support to continue to do their tremendous work,” Don said.  “This is where Canyon Lake Lion’s Club and you can play a role. Begin saving your pull tabs.”

After accumulating some tab pulls, they can be dropped off on the front porch of Canyon Lake Lion’s Club President Nancy Coughlin, 23620 Continental Drive. They can also be picked up from homes or businesses.

Call 602-478-5656, or deposit them at the Senior Center kitchen when the center is open for events.
