Canyon Lake 9ers hand out five scholarships

The Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club delivered five of its Student/Athlete Scholarships this week to high school Canyon Lake seniors.

The club went on its annual golf cart parade to the homes of the recipients to present them with bigger-than-life checks to help with their college expenses.

The recipients were Thomas Siroky, who will be attending Cal Baptist University, Kaylin Kielty, who will be attending the University of Arizona, David Menendez, who will be attending the University of California at Berkeley, Morgan Wagoner, who will be attending Pacific University and Harrison Rowe, who will be attending Southern Utah University. All but David, who will be graduating from Elsinore High School, are soon-to-be Temescal Canyon High School graduates.

“We are very proud of these students and wish them the best in their academic future,” Kathy Sanchez, the club’s publicity chairperson, said.

“Please mark your calendars for our next Scholarship Golf Tournament which will be on Sept. 16. Your participation is greatly appreciated and funds these scholarships for our local students.”

The scholarship recipients were chosen from a pool of applicants who wrote essays and had recommendations from teachers and coaches from their schools. Top candidates were invited to interview with the 9ers Club Scholarship Committee.

Those applying needed to be residents of Canyon Lake, have maintained a 3.5 GPA, and have been actively involved in school activities, a sports team and community service.

Since 2017, the club, with the support of the golf community and Canyon Lake businesses, has raised more than $50,000 for these scholarships.
