Yacht Club wants all Canyon Lakers to help in lake clean up

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club is hoping all Canyon Lake residents will join its members in the Spring Lake Clean Up Day May 6 to help clean up the debris around the perimeter of the lake.

Volunteers won’t need to register, just show up at Diamond Point Park at 9:00 a.m. for instructions and maps. This is a twice-yearly event that the Yacht Club organizes.

Participants with boats will take nets, bags, and other tools needed to clean up the lake and shorelines. Golf cart or car participants will go to park beaches and shorelines to gather trash.

Boats and volunteers will enter every cove to check for debris. All debris and large trash cans will be brought back to Diamond Point Park where the city will collect the items and take care of their disposal.

“The Yacht Club has held lake cleanup every year for decades,” Pete Dalia, the Lake Cleanup Chairman, said. “It is a great opportunity to focus our attention on this beautiful lake, clearing it of some of the mountains of junk that find its way into the water every year.”

Lake cleanup provides a valuable service to the community and is a great way for families to volunteer together, Pete said.

People are encouraged to bring large trash bags, nets and anything else that would help in picking up debris.
