Garage Sales this weekend perfect timing

Happy Friday to you.

The weather has been so strange lately. As I write this on Tuesday it is raining hard. As the rain subsides, here comes clear skies, beautiful blossoms and fresh spring air.

Spring is a time when many of us clean closets and garages and start to prepare for the summer. The community garage sales are set to happen this weekend. What perfect timing.

Many of us will be out and about checking out the trinkets and treasures in the couple hundred homes participating in the POA’s Community Garage Sale, while many of us will be trying to get rid of ours.

I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time giving up things that have sentimental value. The funny thing is, I’ve saved things for so many years thinking the kids would eventually love to see these fabulous items full of memories. But, when I do finally show them the awesome items, they just laugh at me. I guess I just need to let it all go. I need to get rid of all the “stuff” of their childhood that I saved.

After all, I might need to make some more room for the new collection that I might find over the weekend at these garage sales.

I have a new approach to ridding myself of useless sentimental stuff. Now, I take pictures of things that are hard for me to get rid of, then I trash them or I donate them. That photo takes up a lot less space and provides the sentimentality I need from nostalgic items that have spent so much time in my closets and garage.

We seem to love our “stuff.” Stuff has a tendency to weigh us down. There is a bit of freedom gained in letting things go, isn’t there? And a lot of fun in replacing them with a good find. I truly don’t need any extra weight, but I do love a good find or bargain. How about you?

We have a tendency to think our “stuff” is more valuable than others. Just look at the classifieds or prices on used items. Just like a house that is overpriced, our “stuff” will just sit on the market and not sell if not priced right.

Although one person‘s trash can be another person‘s treasure, this weekend can be a great time to purge. Finding freedom in letting go seems so appealing to me. I am still deciding if I can do it. A friend offered to let me bring over some of my “stuff” to sell at her garage sale. Please let me take her up on that.
