City looking for a graduating senior to give $1,500 award

The City of Canyon Lake wants to know how living in Canyon Lake impacts its students and what those students would do to improve Canyon Lake for future generations. And it‘s willing to pay for it.

The city is once again holding an essay contest for Canyon Lake high school seniors and will award the winner a $1,500 scholarship.

Jesse Rupe holds onto his oversized check of $1,500 after being awarded the City of Canyon Lake Scholarship last year. Once again, the city is holding an essay contest where it will award the winner the scholarship. In this City Council Meeting last year, Jesse is joined by Scholarship Committee Members and Councilmembers Jennifer Dain, left, and Kasey Castillo.

All that is needed to enter the contest is a résumé and a 500-to-750 word essay on one of the following two topics: 1) How has living in Canyon Lake made an impact on you? or 2) How would you improve Canyon Lake for future generations?

To enter, the student must reside in Canyon Lake and be a high school senior at the time of submission.

The deadline for submitting the essay and the résumé is April 20 by 5:00 p.m. and they should be submitted in PDF format via email to sgarcia@canyonlakeca.gov. All questions should be directed to City Clerk Sheryl Garcia at 951-244-2955.
