Family Matters quack race fundraiser set for March 11

It is time for everybody to get their ducks in a row for the Canyon Lake Family Matters Club Lucky Duck Derby fundraiser. The fundraiser will take place March 11 at the Canyon Lake Lodge Community Pool.

“Family Matters is quackers about rubber duckies,” the club’s Shawna Bowen said. “This is the quaziest race ever.”

Rubber duckies are “adopted” for a price by Canyon Lake community members and those duckies are put in the water of the pool and race from one end of the pool to the other. The winning duck earns a cash prize for whoever adopted it.

The Canyon Lake community can join the fun from the comfort of their own family room. The 3rd Annual Lucky Duck Derby fundraiser is a virtual event that will be streamed live. The winners will be announced at the end of the race.

The only way to watch the race in person is to be an event sponsor. Event sponsors can race their ducks, as well, at the pool.

The Lucky Duck Derby is an event that the entire community and people of all ages can participate in. Participants can adopt their ducks via the Family Matters website, familymattersclub.org. On race day, the ducks are dropped in at one end of the pool and the race begins. The ducks race as they are moved along with a water hose to reach the other end of the pool.

“To participate in this quazie race, ducks need to be adopted,” Shawna said. “To adopt one single duckie, the price is just $3.00. For a box of 15 Quackers, the donation is $20.00.”

With each adoption, donors will receive a photo of their actual ducks, the ducks’ numbers and an adoption certificate. Donors can fill out their “Team Name,” and post it to the event page or send it to Family Matters and they will post it. The First Place Derby Duck will win $100 cash.
