Canyon Laker wins Best of Show at prestigious car show

Canyon Lake’s Rick Youngquist won the top prize at the 2023 Dr. George Car Show in Indian Wells last week. There were more than 1,000 classic, custom and exotic cars registered for this show, making the Best of Show Award all the more remarkable.

His 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle will be featured on next year’s Dr. George Car Show T-shirts and in next year’s car show magazine.

Canyon Lake Car Club members displayed 12 vehicles at the show. Car Club members have attended this event for many years. The Dr. George Car show is an annual event held for the benefit of the Desert Cancer Foundation. Since the show’s inception in 2003, it has raised more than $1.1 million for the charity.

The show is a huge hit and attended by so many because of the always nearly-perfect February warm desert weather and wide-open parking on the lawns of the Indian Wells Tennis Center.

Of the 1,000 cars that entered the show, Rick’s Chevelle was a huge hit. Rick has had the car for eight years. The Chevelle was a “frame off” restoration completed by Kelly and Sons in Bellflower, CA. The restoration took 3½ years to complete.

Rick’s winning car sits on a roadster shop frame, has an LS motor built by Pace Performance, TKO 600 5-speed transmission, Currie 9” rear end, Penske coil overs all around, 4 link in the rear, Wilwood big brake kit, three-piece American Racing rims and Toyo Proxes R888R tires.

Rick attended the show with his wife Brittany and their daughters Aspyn and Andie.
