Solar installs begin

Solar panels on steel carport structures have begun to take shape at the Canyon Lake Equestrian Center over the past two weeks as part of a new solar project that will soon be delivering clean and renewable energy to some of the association’s busiest facilities.

Work on the panel supports at the Canyon Lake Lodge parking lot began its installation Monday. The third and final location to receive the overhead solar array structures will be the Canyon Lake Country Club.

Once installed and operational, these solar structures will generate over one million kilowatt-hours of clean energy and provide shaded parking options.

The cost of the structures, the solar panels and their installation is being absorbed by the company installing them through a contract with the Canyon Lake POA. For granting permission to install the structures on Canyon Lake POA parking lots, the POA will be granted the purchase of the generated electricity at a much lower cost than current rates. The rate will be locked in for 25 years.

The annual rate escalation from current-electricity-provider Southern California Edison is unknown, so this solar panel arrangement will guarantee that the Canyon Lake POA pays a fixed amount over the next 25 years. The Canyon Lake POA is expecting to save nearly three million dollars over those 25 years.
