Letter: Disposing batteries

Editor, The Friday Flyer:

You know those pesky little batteries that often don‘t work when you really need your flashlight? And then we throw them away and buy new ones?

Well, guess what? Throwing batteries in the trash is a no-no. You see, those old batteries decompose in the ground and leach out heavy metal contaminants into the soil and eventually cause all kinds of problems.

So here is what I am suggesting. Collect all those old used batteries (in a box somewhere in the garage) and when you have a sizable amount, take them to a place that will receive them and dispose of them properly. There are several such places in the area, but I use the one located at 512 No. Langstaff St., Lake Elsinore. They are open the first Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

If you have a problem doing this, call me and I will arrange to have them picked up. Call 714-514-1666 and leave a message.

Thanks for considering this. Help save the planet.
