Walkers and Runners already at 250 members

Canyon Lake residents Betsy Colvin Mackey and her daughter Caroline Mackey started the Canyon Lake Walkers and Runners group a little over a month ago and already 250 Canyon Lake residents have joined them. They formed the group in an effort to promote healthier lifestyles for themselves and those living in Canyon Lake.

The group encourages members to walk around the Canyon Lake parks and the community in an effort to promote better health.

“Walking increases physical activity and it promotes a healthier community, which makes the community a better place to live.” Caroline said. “An active community is a vibrant community.”

“We formed the group, Canyon Lake Walkers and Runners to promote not only walking, but to make friends and to get to know those in the community,” Betsy said. “The group is open to all ages. We do regular meetups and walks, which are promoted through our Facebook page.”

The group has come together to enjoy each other’s company, either walking, running or strolling, including those in wheelchairs, Betsy said.

The group encourages participating in whatever the community offers to stay physically active. They’re, for example, promoting and encouraging participation in the Canyon Lake Triathlon and Fitness Club Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot.
