Letter: Grateful for veterans

Editor, The Friday Flyer:

I may be in the last generation that knows the real meaning of Veterans Day. For many years it was called Armistice Day which signified the signing and surrender of the Germans in 1918 to end the First World War in Europe. This was called The Great War. America lost 116,516 soldiers during just the last year of that war.

I would like to thank the families of those soldiers who fought and who gave their lives for the freedom of this country. Not much is mentioned about the Great War anymore, but my family will always remember those who sacrificed so that we can have those freedoms that we now enjoy.

— Paul Parque
