Canyon Lake’s Thomas Siroky named Student of the Month

Thomas Siroky was named the male November Student of the Month for Temescal Canyon High School and will be honored at a luncheon Tuesday. The Canyon Lake student will receive a basket full of gift certificates and prizes from sponsors of The Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce which puts on the event. The awards luncheon will take place at Lakeside High School’s Round Table Café and will honor male and female Students of the Month from each of the Lake Elsinore Unified School District’s high schools.

Pepe’s picked as Chamber’s Business of the Month

Pepe’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina was selected by the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors as its October Business of the Month.

The Board of Directors honored Pepe’s for its support of both Chamber member and Chamber community events.

Pepe’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina is located at the entrance to the Canyon Lake Town Center and has both a full service restaurant and bar.

Canyon Lake Drive North home fire injures two occupants

Two occupants of a home on Canyon Lake Drive North near Cove View Street were taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries after the house caught on fire Monday.

The fire, which was reported around 1:00 p.m., caused damage in the attic, roof and other areas of home before the Canyon Lake Fire Department Engine 1 arrived. With the assistance of several fire department crews from neighboring county fire departments, the fire was contained about an hour later.

When the firefighters arrived, flames were encountered coming from the attic and roof. Significant smoke damage occurred throughout the 2,000-square-foot house.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Flags available for Field of Honor on Veterans Day

The City of Canyon Lake Veterans Day Committee is planning its Veterans Day Celebration which will take place on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The committee is going to place about 200 flags at the Veterans Memorial Park in the Canyon Lake Town Center tomorrow, where they will stay until the day after the celebration.

Whoever wishes to honor a veteran with a flag can do so with a $10 donation by Monday. Each flag will have a ribbon with the name of the honoree.

Donors can pick up their flags after the Veteran’s Day event at the Field of Honor anytime on Nov. 12, or anytime thereafter at Pack, Wrap and Post.

To reserve a Flag of Honor for a veteran, place $10 in an envelope with name, mailing address and email address, along with the name of the person being honored and bring to Pack Wrap and Post, 31516 Railroad Canyon Road in the Canyon Lake Town Center.

Sold out Stone Soul takes Lodge Stage tomorrow

The Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild will end its concert season with Stone Soul, a classic soul and Motown tribute band in the Holiday Bay Room at the Canyon Lake Lodge tomorrow (Saturday) at 7:00 p.m. The concert is sold out.

Stone Soul is an eight-piece, horn-blowing, foot-stomping classic soul and Motown tribute band that has built its reputation on being hard working and entertaining.

The band supports legendary acts such as Stevie Wonder, BB King, Huey Lewis and the News, Diana Ross, The O’Jays and Mary Wilson and has played over 1,000 shows to over 1.5 million fans.

Theater Group to hold elections

The Canyon Lake Community Theatre Group will be holding elections for board of directors on Nov. 16. Anyone interested in joining the board of directors needs to submit a letter of intent no later than Wednesday.

Those interested can visit the website at www.clctheatre.com and click on the elections tab. The letter of intent needs to include the reason for wanting to be on the Board of Directors and must include contact information, email and phone number.

Election meeting will be held at the EastPort Building on Nov. 16 and anyone interested in being on the board needs to be present.

Golfers invited to the Kiwanis Club’s golf tournament

John Grande of Canyon Lake Solar, who is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Temecula Valley, invites golfers to join in this year’s golf tournament to be held at the Canyon Lake Golf and Country Club on Nov. 14.

Check in at 10:00 a.m., followed by a putting contest at 11:00 a.m. with tee time at noon.

This is a four person scramble, so sign up as a team or singles will be matched with a team.

Entry fee is $75.00 which includes banquet, awards and driving range, with a green fee of $37.00, cart rental of $17.00 for a total of $129.00.

Contests include closest to the hole, longest drive, closest to the line fairway, putting contests and more.

The Kiwanis Club is a distinguished service club dedicated to the needs of the community in the greater Temecula Valley, focusing on serving the needs of the community with an emphasis on children.

Senior Center looking for bridge players

The Canyon Lake Senior Center invites community members to join other bridge players for regular games at the center.

“We are looking for bridge players and would love to meet you,” Peggy Clark said. “You don’t need a partner.”

The group plays every Thursday at 12:30 p.m. and on the first, third and fifth Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. at the Senior Center.
