Woman’s Club luncheon fetes its 50th year

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club celebrated its 50th anniversary last week in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge with an array of activities for the club‘s members and their guests. The club has been prepping for the special day for months.

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club currently has 202 members and filled the room.

The extra special monthly meeting began with a skit put on by a couple members who reenacted how the Woman’s Club came to be.

Club President Shawna Bowen shared a slideshow with clippings of the Woman’s Club over the last 50 years, which included many of the ways the club has given back to the community over the years.

The Rose Garden at the Lodge, for example, was started by the Woman’s Club 25 years ago and every time a new president is elected, she and her board choose the kind of rose to add to the garden.

The meeting celebrating the 50 years of the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club brought a wave of comments from its members.

“Wow. All I can say is wow,” Shawna said. “Today was such an amazing milestone. We turned 50 and the club is looking forward to the next 50. Without all of the club’s members, none of this would be possible.”

Dona Ziegler said “the day was fabulously fun.”

Donna Lovejoy said, “I enjoyed learning about the history of the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club and how it got its start. I never knew just how much the club gave back to the community and I’m proud to be a member.”

Debra Sachs said, “I’m a new member and I’m so impressed with the amount of money raised and donated to so many projects in the community. I appreciated learning the history of the Woman’s Club from the slideshow Shawna put together.”

Jeanette Folliott said, “I’m proud to be a member of the Woman’s Club and I’m so impressed with the enormous impact the club has had on the community. I purchased an anniversary shirt today and I will wear it proudly.”

Calista Grande said, “I’m honored to be not only a member of the Woman’s Club, but to be serving the club on its board. When women come together, amazing things happen.”

Jeanine Neely said, “today was a wonderful celebration and I’m so glad to be here and to be a part of it.”

Kellie Welty said, “today is astounding. The amount of money dedicated to the community is something to be proud of and I’m proud to be a member of the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club.”

Marga Kidd said, “I appreciate not only the women in the Woman’s Club, but all the beautiful women in Canyon Lake. I love what the women in Canyon Lake do to make this the best community.”

Barbie Curran, said, “I’m a newbie and this club has made me feel so welcome from the moment I walked in the door. Today’s program and skit are something I’ll always remember.”
