Carnival brings out the goblins

The Canyon Lake Family Matters Club held its 9th annual Halloween Carnival and Trunk or Treat at Holiday Harbor Saturday afternoon and the turnout was overwhelming. More than 1,000 carnival goers dressed up and enjoyed the day.

The kids enjoyed endless carnival games, trunk or treating and running around at the playground at Holiday Harbor. The carnival included games, crafts, bobbing for apples and the hand-behind-your-back-pretzel-hanging-on-a-rope eating contest.

Club Founder Shawna Bowen said she especially appreciated those who participated in the trunk or treat contest and took the time to dress up the trunks of their vehicles for the kids to visit to trick or treat and get goodies.

The Canyon Lake Fire Department brought the big engine out and handed out candy to all trick or treaters. The truck’s driver’s seat was a popular place for the costumed kids to have photos taken.

After handing out candy, the firefighters mingled among the carnival goers.

Most of the young ones participated in the costume contest and parade. Awards were given to those with the best costumes.

Winners of the costume contest were Micah Billheimer, 10, for his original Avengers Hawkeye costume. Kayson and Kyler Paull won the scariest. Madison Pineda, dressed as Dr. Octopus, won the award for the best overall costume. Juliette Campbell, 8, and Hudson Fansler, 1, won the group portion of the contest.

The winner of the Best Decorated Trunk or Treat Vehicle went to Sugar and Sugar Custom Sugar Cookies. The prize was $250.00 cash.

“On behalf of the entire Family Matters Club, we would like to thank our sponsors,” Shawna said. “Our sponsors were Pepe’s, Sandi Geer of Farmers Insurance, Real Dealz, Hoffman Painting, Donna Thibodeau, Queen of Travel, Bock Proactive Legal and Patriotic Arms. Without them, it would not have been possible to give the kids and their families a memorable afternoon. We would also like to thank all the vendors who came out to support the Carnival and Trunk or Treat.”

Money raised at the Canyon Lake Family Matters Club Halloween Carnival and Trunk or Treat go toward upcoming events such as the Family Matters Winter Carnival and Letters to Santa Program.
