Halloween CL’s busiest holiday

Between all of the witch groups throwing various types of parties and the myriad parties and carnivals for the kids, Halloween has grown into one of the busiest seasons of the year in Canyon Lake. Half the community’s houses seem to have lights and decorations promoting the spooky side of Halloween.

To fit all of the massive activities into the spare weekends, the events are starting earlier and earlier in the month.

There are many more Halloween-themed activities in Canyon Lake than what are listed here, but this summary that follows are the ones in The Friday Flyer this week. They’re listed in chronological order and as the month comes to a close, more and more will be highlighted in the newspaper. The paragraphs that follow are simply a summary and in most cases, there a more complete stories about the events inside this week’s Friday Flyer.

Family Matters Carnival

Little ghoulies and goblins will take over Holiday Harbor next weekend on Oct. 22 to participate in the annual Canyon Lake Family Matters Club’s 9th annual Halloween Carnival and Trunk or Treat.

The event a week prior to Halloween gives Canyon Lake kids an opportunity to have a blast two weekends in a row. The Family Matters Club’s popular event will be on Saturday next weekend from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Dock or Treat

Craig Brown is organizing a repeat of last year’s successful Dock or Treat event where Canyon Lake kids dress up and via boat visit dressed-up docks to collect the treats. The event will take place on Oct. 22 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Those who have a dock and would like to participate can get their dock listed on Craig’s Google Map.

“If you plan to participate in decorating your dock please post your address and family name on the Facebook post,” he said. “I will be working on the virtual map next week once we get some participants to add. Looking forward to making it bigger and better than last year.”

Parade of Frights

The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Parade of Frights on Oct. 29 in the Canyon Lake Town Center.

The popular event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will include the Parade of Frights where as many as 800 costumed kids go from business to business to collect goodies, but to also get their map stamped so they can be entered into a drawing of prizes. There is also a costume contest. and carnival games.

Gathering of the Witches

Another activity takes place on Oct. 29 where the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club will be holding its annual Gathering of the Witches at the Canyon Lake Senior Center.

Tickets are $35.00 for witches over the age of 18 and $20.00 for those witches in training who are under 18. Tickets include lunch and one drink of choice and additional drinks are available for purchase.

Tickets are limited and will sell out quickly. Don’t miss out on all the witchy fun. The event is open to the entire community, not just members of the Woman’s Club. Bring friends and let them see just how spell-binding the Woman’s Club can be.

Halloween Witch Paddle

Canyon Lakers dressed as witches are taking to the lake on their paddle boards on Halloween morning to promote breast cancer awareness. All Canyon Lake witches are invited to join them.

The Annual Witches of Canyon Lake Halloween Witch Paddle will depart from Moonstone Beach at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 31. Instead of broomsticks, the witches will cruise around the Main Lake on paddleboards and kayaks.
